Day 1: Arrival
Overnight at Babylon Lodge – Marangu Moshi
Day 2: Marangu to Rongai -Total distance 60km Accumuative ascent 1134m
Our cycle challenge starts in all earnest. Althoughthe distance is not that far, it is very hilly on this side of the mountain. Lots of up and down cycling on a good tar road rising up to an altitude of just over 2000m. A big challenge
We cycle through beautiful lush green areas where small farmers grow bananas, avocado and mangoes.
We will also get stunning views on Mt Mawenzi (5149m) and Mt Kilimanjaro (5895m), the highest mountain in Africa.
Overnight at Snowcap Lodge – Rongai
Day 3: Rongai to Simba Farm Camp – Total distance 75km Accumulative ascent 1050m
Today we cycle further around Kilimanjaro with great views over the mountain itself as well as over the plains of Kenya towards Amboseli national park.
Only the first part is on tar. The rest is on dirt roads. Although we steadily loose altitude, today will still be challenging as the road is tricky in parts.
There is also a section which is real African bush and it is not unusual to see wild animals.
Overnight at Simba Farm Camp.
Day 4: Simba Farm Camp to Arusha Town – Total distance 100km Accumulative ascent 850m
This is a day we cover a lot of distance, cycling between the 2 great mountains of the area. Mount Kilimanjaro (5895m) and Mount Meru (4561m).
We cross the very dry plains between them where the Maasai have herded their cattle and goats for generations. We will pass them along the way.
As we approach Mount Meru the ecology starts changing again and we start climbing again steadily. We skirt Arusha national park before joining the tar road towards the town of Arusha. His city has become the bustling centre for people that want to visit the world renowned parks of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater.
The last 40km is on a very good tar road, but still quite hilly in places.
Overnight at 4Js Hotel – Arusha.
